Edit the text Meta (META.US) Chief Technology Officer said on Wednesday that the company’s newly established AI lab has already delivered its first highly anticipated AI models internally this month. During a press briefing at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth said that the models developed by Meta’s Super Intelligence Lab team, formed last year, have shown tremendous potential. Bosworth said, “They’ve been working on this for basically less than six months—actually even less,” adding that the team’s AI models have performed “exceptionally well.” Media reported in December that Meta was developing a text AI model codenamed Avocado, scheduled for release in the first quarter, and also working on an image and video model codenamed Mango. Bosworth did not specify which models were delivered internally this time. Meta’s efforts have been closely watched ever since CEO Mark Zuckerberg made significant moves to restructure AI leadership, establish a new lab, and poach talent with sky-high salaries. Zuckerberg hopes the company can prevail in the fiercely competitive tech frontier. Previously, Meta faced criticism over the performance of its Llama 4 model. Meanwhile, competitors such as Google have already taken the lead in this transformative and highly profitable AI race. Bosworth said the technology is not yet finalized. Referring to the general development cycle, Bosworth said, “In the AI field, there’s still a huge amount of work to be done ‘post-training’ to ensure that the delivered models are usable both internally and for consumers.” However, he noted that Meta’s major bet for 2025 has already begun to show promising returns.
